Arthur Middleton (St. John’s) was a distinguished South Carolina patriot who attended Westminster School in England before going to Cambridge. Middleton became a prominent planter and politician upon his return to America. He was deeply involved in revolutionary activities, serving in the Provincial Congress and the Continental Congress. Captured by the British during the Siege of Charleston in 1780, he endured captivity until his release in 1781.
