You're invited to join Cambridge Alumni of Northern California for an online symposium bringing together biomedical researchers and clinical experts in the field of gastroenterology and neurogastroenterology.
The panel will explore a range of important topics related to gut health, including the enteric nervous system (often referred to as our "second brain"), inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease, the role of beneficial and harmful microbes, congenital conditions, and various treatment approaches, including cell therapy and surgery. Dr. Julia Kaltschmidt, PhD
Dr. Julia Kaltschmidt is a Faculty Scholar at the Stanford Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute and an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Stanford School of Medicine.
Dr. Ali Tavakkoli, MB, BS
Dr. Ali Tavakkoli is the Francis D. Moore Associate Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School, a surgeon at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he serves as the Chief of the Division of General and GI Surgery, Co-Director of the Center for Weight Management and Wellness, and Director of the Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship.
Dr. Mark Mimee, PhD
Dr. Mark Mimee is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology and the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering at the University of Chicago, and a 2022 Beckman Young Investigator.
Dr. Faranak Fattahi, PhD
Dr. Faranak Fattahi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and a former Sandler Fellow at UCSF. She is a pioneer in developing human pluripotent stem cell platforms for modeling and treating diseases of the peripheral nervous system.
Dr. Evgeniia Pimenova, MD, PhD
Dr. Evgeniia Pimenova is a human stem cell researcher at UCSF and a pediatric surgeon with extensive experience in treating children with congenital bowel diseases.
